The four cardinal Platonic virtues

The four virtues identified by Plato as charactistic of a perfect state have been appropriated and promulgated widely since his writing around 375 BCE.

And being perfect, is therefore wise and valiant and temperate and just. (Republic book 4)

These are also the Stoic virtues and the Christian Cardinal virtues, and they turn up all over the place.
